Title: Future Imperfect (16/16 - COMPLETE!)
Pairing: Kirk/McCoy
Rating: Teen (this part)
Word count: 4,168 (this chapter); 50,097 (total)
Warnings: Slavery "light"
Thanks: To cordelianne for seeing me through to the end of another story. And to all my readers, especially those who offered their encouragement along the way.
Notes: This story takes place in the same time period as the 2009 movie (and roughly follows its events), but imagines the future as a eugenic dystopia. Technically unbeta'd, so feel free to point out typos. It took me a year and a half, but I've finally finished! Whew!

Summary: Leonard wins the kid in a hand of poker. A hand of poker he plays in the dirty back room of a dive bar in East Bumfuck, Iowa, two weeks after his humiliating divorce is finalized, and on the sixth day of a bourbon-fueled bender that’s somehow taken him from his high-rise loft in Atlanta to a fleabag motel in the middle of nowhere.

Also available on AO3.

Thanks: To cordelianne, who decorated the tree with me today (or maybe I decorated it with her).
Notes: This story takes place in the same time period as the 2009 movie (and will roughly follow its events), but imagines the future as a eugenic dystopia. Technically unbeta'd, so feel free to point out typos. Well, the number of chapters is no longer a mystery! There will be two more after this. The end is nearly in my grasp. Given how long its been since I answered comments on this story, you might be forgiven for thinking that I don't treasure the interaction that is me writing and posting and readers sharing their thoughts on the work. Nothing could be further from the truth! At the moment, it seems I have limited time and energy for fannish pursuits, so I choose to spend that limited time writing more instead of answering comments - but I do so adore them all the same.

Notes: This story takes place in the same time period as the 2009 movie (and will roughly follow its events), but imagines the future as a eugenic dystopia. Technically unbeta'd, so feel free to point out typos. Writing is progressing a bit slowly, but I think we're nearing the end now. Just 2 or 3 chapters to go!

Thanks: To cordelianne, who is making arrangements for our Oahu sightseeing!

Technically unbeta'd, so feel free to point out typos. I know it's been a terribly long time since I last updated, but I'm very excited to find that I am indeed capable of writing again (after months of post-dissertation/cross-country move writing hangover) and to offer you this chapter. Of course, I'm headed to Hawaii tomorrow for a little honeymoon, so there may be a (more slight) delay in the writing of the next chapter, but I can't say I'm too sorry about that...

Title: The Space Between
Pairing: Kirk/McCoy
Rating: Teen
Word count: 5,670
Thanks: To cordelianne, as always.
Warnings/Notes: SPOILERS FOR STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. (In fact, the fic probably makes little sense if you aren't familiar with the scenes of the movie.) Basically, I have no complaints about the amount of Bones in the movie, but that doesn't mean I can't write in some more - along with some Jim/Bones! (Also, for those who read me regularly, I'm sorry I haven't updated "Future Imperfect" for so long. I am struggling to get back into the headspace of that fic after all my brain energy was sucked up finishing my dissertation.)

Summary: My humble attempt to write Bones (and a Jim/Bones relationship) into the spaces between scenes of the (STID) movie.

Or read at AO3 if you prefer.

Yeah, that's right, come the end of July, cordelianne and I will be packing up our stuff, ourselves, and our very adorable dog and moving to Southern California. I have accepted a post-doctoral fellowship at UC Irivine.

Now, if you're something like my age, you may remember the title of this post as lyrics from the theme song of The O.C. Which is fitting, first of all because Irvine is located in Orange County (though we will probably aim to live in LA County, maybe Long Beach), and second of all, I suppose, since my strongest memories of watching The O.C. are from my first four years in grad school. This will be my ninth year in grad school and, thank fuck, my last.

Title: Future Imperfect (11/16)
Pairing: Kirk/McCoy
Rating: Mature (this part)
Word count: 3,239
Warnings: Extensive but non-explicit discussion of past child sexual and emotional abuse; slavery "light"
Thanks: To cordelianne, who is a faithful partner in a stressful time.
Notes: This story takes place in the same time period as the 2009 movie (and will roughly follow its events), but imagines the future as a eugenic dystopia. (We'll pretend this has nothing to do with my academic study of human enhancement technologies and eugenics and that I didn't steal the title from a library book sitting on my shelf.) Technically unbeta'd, so feel free to point out typos. Sorry (again) for the major delays, being on the academic job market has a tendency to consume one's life, and the particular content of this chapter didn't make it a fun escape into writing.
